Week 3 - Local Motion and People Stories
I covered two different subjects in this assignment: the Food Vault event and the Alpha Gamma Delta organization.
Hawaii food bank provided UH Manoa students food. UHM has a food pantry program called Food Vault, they address food insecurity and to serve registered students of UH Manoa. They partnered with Hawaii Health & Harm Reduction Center to aid those in need for food. What I liked about this assignment was that I contacted the Campus Center of events beforehand of the day. They notified me this was an event happening that day, and that allowed me to introduce myself before it had gotten busy. I first spoke to the workers at the booths who'd ask for your registration and gave the tickets, such as Nicholas Howe in one of my photographs. They then introduced me to the official, so I got to build rapport with Bonnyjean Manini, the principal investigator of this project for food insecurity. What I found most challenging was in the beginning, when I was originally trying to find a story. That's how I theorized I'd have a better chance of finding a story if I contacted the office for events at the Campus Center. They've been updating me on new events since then. What I plan to work on going forward is finding even more events to cover. I enjoyed this event because it opened to more potential opportunities.
As for The Alpha Gamma Delta, they were promoting their organization at the Campus Center for any new members to join. What I liked about this was I had an essence understanding of this organization because I have a friend joined in it who shares her experiences with me. What I found most challenging was again, finding a story to cover for this assignment. This wasn't too difficult fortunately because I chose to look around. That's how reporting initiates, finding stories which you need to go out of your way for, especially with a passion. With a passion for what you want to do in life, there is direction and progress.
