Week 5 - Photo Assignment 4: Location Photo Essay

Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers has partnered with 102.7 Da Bomb and Read To Me International Foundation for National Reading Month, in an effort to encourage Hawaii parents to read with their children every day. The event took place at Raising Cane’s in Kapolei featuring three local celebrities reading to children.

“Raising Canes and Read to Me International teamed up with our radio station 102.7 Da Bomb,” Phat Joe said from The Keola Show on 102.7 Da Bomb. “We've been going to different Raising Canes every Sunday and reading books to children.”

Lance Rae, a partner at TLC PR, added, “We have a lot of parents in Hawaii, especially lower income parents, perhaps with multiple jobs, that don't really have the time to teach their kids how to read properly. And so it's good for parents to spend those few minutes every day to read aloud to their kids, and explain to their kids what the meaning of words are, and this event will help the kids to expand their vocabulary, and also expand their knowledge of the world.”

The event included readings from several local celebrities, including KHON News Anchor Brigette Namata with her dog Mimi, Good Morning Hawaii Reporter Erin Coogan KITV, and Local Actress and Child Education Professor at UH Jody Bill. Attendees were treated to Raising Cane’s famous lemonade and Ono Cake Pops from Hawaii Cupcake Factory. In the process before I covered the event, I didn't think I would've covered it until I decided to tell myself to just go if I am waiting for nothing. If I was planning to go, it had to be now or else I'd miss my bus. I never rode this bus before either but I figured things out. Then I got to my stop right in time. When I arrived, I was able to cover the event, interviewing an well known figure hosing radio 102.7 Da Bomb, the manager at Raising Cane's, and an official working for the Read To Me International. I then captured photos for this assignment.
