Week 6 - Short Audio Assignment
I appreciate my professor Annalisa Burgos, who gave us the opportunity to speak with city council member, Tyler Dos Santos-Tam. Annalisa Burgos is the Journalism 300 Reporting professor and an anchor on Hawaii News Now. We had a field trip to the Honolulu Fire Department then to the Honolulu Hale. We got to listen to Tyler Dos Santos-Tam then by the time we were dismissed, I stayed longer to interview with Tyler Dos Santos-Tam. He shared to me his information on a bill in association with this issue on the cost of living. This experience has taught me that journalism is not just about writing stories, but also about engaging with the community and gathering information from sources first-hand. It was enlightening to hear Tyler Dos Santos-Tam's perspective on the cost of living issue in Honolulu, and it gave me a better understanding of how local government operates.
In terms of the technical aspect of this assignment, I found using Audacity to edit the audio recordings challenging at first, but with practice, I was able to produce a quality final product. It's essential to have a basic understanding of audio editing software, especially since multimedia storytelling is becoming more prevalent in journalism.
Moving forward, I hope to continue covering important issues in Oahu and other parts of Hawaii. This assignment has given me the confidence to reach out to government officials and other sources to gather information and share stories with a broader audience. As a journalist, it's important to stay curious and continue learning about the world around us, and I look forward to doing just that.
