Week 1 - Neighborhood Assignment What I liked about this assignment was that it gave awareness and that the people I spoke to gave me their opinions. I believe it's fascinating what information people can receive and give, we learn best from people. I appreciate any information someone can enlighten me with from their experience. I have not spoken to many people in-person, but I have gained perspectives from online. Now that I interviewed people while balancing a long commute from university to home, it brings me more appetite for life. It brings more potential for any opportunity for personal and career activities.
What I found most challenging about this assignment was that I had to get home and it was getting dark quickly. As a full time student, I wake up at 5:00 a.m. and I catch the bus at 5:30 a.m. I get to university by 6:45 a.m. and I study at university until 5:00 p.m. Then I commute back home, which varies between 6 to 7 p.m. I have a tight schedule from Monday to Friday, but everything is doable. I only had a home curfew thus I had to rush to catch my bus rides if I were to interview someone in the Kapolei Marketplace.
What I would plan to work on going forward is interviewing not only the residents of Kapolei, but also interviewing workers at the stores from where these carts were originally. If the opportunity happens again, I will ask the employees' experiences having to deal with cart theft.
